Description:

The State of Missouri’s Division of Youth Services is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to join its mission of creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in both day treatment and residential programs. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people while practicing professional nursing in a supportive and structured setting. Candidates must demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and strong communication skills while maintaining the highest standards of nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct physical examinations, nursing assessments, schedule sick calls, and review medical complaints, injuries, and physicians’ orders.

  • Develop and implement nursing care plans tailored to the needs of youth in care.

  • Monitor youths’ health needs and coordinate necessary medical services.

  • Maintain accurate medical and medication logs, reports, and health files.

  • Stay informed on new research, treatment methods, and best practices in nursing care.

  • Provide training, health education, and CPR/First Aid instruction to youth, staff, and families.

  • Dispense medications and ensure safe medication management.

  • Supervise and review the work of LPNs, nurse assistants, and other healthcare staff.

  • Oversee incident reporting, case management, and medical care compliance.

  • Transport and escort youth during routine and emergency medical situations.

  • Promote preventative healthcare, hygiene, and wellness initiatives within the facility.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and standards.

  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate healthcare staff.

  • Skilled in implementing detailed therapeutic prescriptions under supervision.

  • Effective communication and organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities.

Education & Licensing Requirements:

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Missouri or under the Nurse Licensure Compact (required).

  • Graduates of accredited nursing programs may practice temporarily until licensure results are received.

  • Valid driver’s license (required).

  • Certifications such as CPR, First Aid Instructor, and HIV Counseling/Testing certification may be required or obtained after hire.
