Description:
We are seeking a Release Manager to be responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of a strategic program with the Department of Veterans Affairs covering over millions of veteran users. This role will involve working with cross-functional teams, managing resources, mitigating risks, and ensuring the successful delivery of programs aligned with business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a proven track record of managing complex programs from inception to completion.
Responsibilities
- Define release scope with product owners and development teams
- Manage release timelines, milestones, and code freeze dates
- Ensure documentation requirementsmeet release criteria
- Coordinate testing to ensure release isready for deployment
- Prepare rollback plans andvalidatethe plan with the development team
- Initiatereleasebuild and verify buildartifacts
- Communicate release statusand reportto stakeholdersregardingdeployment and stability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related scientific/technical discipline. An additional 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the required education.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience managing software, hardware, or system component releases.
- Significant experience with VA Enterprise Cloud (AWS GovCloud + Azure Gov) and ServiceNow ITSM are required
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple releases concurrently
- Proven track record coordinating across cross-functional teams including QA, Development, Packaging, and Hardware
- Attention to detail in documenting release schedules, dependencies, and risk assessments
- Strong communication skills for stakeholder coordination and status reporting
- Proactive in identifying and resolving scheduling conflicts or risks that may impact release delivery
- Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines effectively
- Familiarity with release automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
- Demonstrated ability to implement and refine release governance and standard operating procedures
- Experience with enterprise change management and version control systems
