Seattle Children’s Research Institute, in collaboration with the University of Washington, is seeking a Research Scientist I to join the SEPS Lab at the Center for Integrative Brain Research. This position will contribute to groundbreaking research focused on understanding the shared molecular pathology of the many genetic causes of autism.

The successful candidate will work closely with postdoctoral researchers and students to conduct investigations on altered signal transduction in autism using genetic mouse models and primary neuronal cell cultures. This role requires precise wet lab work, bioinformatics analyses (MatLab and R programming), and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in molecular and behavioral biology.

The position offers an exceptional training environment within a modern research facility featuring advanced equipment, an open lab design, on-site amenities such as a gym and rooftop garden, and a collaborative, multidisciplinary research community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct molecular biology experiments, including genetic analysis using mouse models and neuronal cell cultures.

  • Perform bioinformatics analyses using MatLab and R to support research findings.

  • Collaborate with postdoctoral fellows, graduate, and undergraduate researchers on multiple parallel research projects.

  • Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and research reports.

  • Participate in lab meetings, data discussions, and interdisciplinary collaborations within the research institute.

  • Follow laboratory safety guidelines and institutional policies.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

  • Prior laboratory experience required.

  • Experience in molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, or biochemistry is highly preferred.

  • Familiarity with neuropsychiatric disease models and behavioral biology is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in MatLab and R programming preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, research-focused environment.
