Meta, a global leader in social technology and digital innovation, is seeking Research Scientists to join its Central Applied Science team in Menlo Park, California. This interdisciplinary group of quantitative scientists drives high-impact research and innovation across Meta’s ecosystem, including products, infrastructure, and operations. The team’s mission is to leverage cutting-edge research in AI, machine learning, statistics, and data science to deliver real-world impact and advance Meta’s strategic goals.
As a Research Scientist – Central Applied Science, you will engage in developing new quantitative methods, designing large-scale data experiments, and creating frameworks that enable Meta to tackle complex challenges across its global platforms. You will work with massive datasets, explore ambitious research directions, and collaborate with teams of scientists, engineers, and product managers to build intelligent systems that serve billions of users worldwide.
Work with large and complex datasets to generate novel research questions and push the boundaries of current scientific understanding.
Develop and apply advanced quantitative methods leveraging Meta’s state-of-the-art data infrastructure.
Contribute to long-term research goals while achieving measurable intermediate milestones.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineers, UX researchers, and product managers—to implement innovative, data-driven solutions.
Communicate research findings and best practices in quantitative analysis to internal stakeholders.
Identify opportunities for data science contributions aligned with Meta’s future roadmap and strategic objectives.
PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
Strong publication record in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related domains.
Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and algorithm development.
Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
Knowledge of data querying tools like Presto, Hive, or Spark.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Must have work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
