Description:
This position supports a collaborative team of investigators conducting innovative translational research aimed at improving outcomes in aggressive blood cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia, as well as other solid tumors.
The laboratory, within the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division, is seeking an experienced Research Technician I/II to lead and execute laboratory studies focused on advancing targeted radiation delivery using monoclonal antibodies. The role involves both in vivo and in vitro work, including: conducting and overseeing experiments using mouse tumor models, performing a range of cell-based and molecular assays, and supporting the development and evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research with direct clinical relevance in oncology.
Responsibilities
- Inject mice with antibodies, drugs, tumor and/or hematopoietic stem cells in the tail vein, flank, retro-orbital venous plexus, and/or in the peritoneal cavity. Other therapies will be dosed through oral gavaging.
- Perform biodistribution experiments, requiring blood draws, euthanizing mice, and dissecting out tumors and normal organs.
- Grow and maintain human, murine, and canine tumor cell lines in tissue culture with sterile technique.
- Radiolabel antibodies and/or biotin with radioisotopes including Iodine-125, Iodine-131, Yttrium-90, Astatine-211 and others.
- Perform in vitro evaluations of chemotherapeutic agents and/or irradiation with cell lines.
- Perform basic mathematical and statistical analyses and standard lab computations, e.g. solution computations, cell dilutions, and antibody doses.
- Operate a variety of imaging instruments (like iQID, IVIS/LagoX, alpha-cameras, confocal microscopy, etc.) and analytical instruments (such as gamma counters, dose calibrators, cryostat machines, flow cytometers, luminometer and spectrophotometers).
- Keep detailed records of experiments conducted, organize data, prepare data for analysis and presentation via software packages like excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Word, and prism/graph pad, FloJo.
- Prepare specifications and quality control maintenance for equipment and supplies needed in support of research, including running inventory and ordering supplies.
- Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
- Identify methodological problems in research protocols and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
- Prepare and present written and/or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
- Contribute to maintenance and updates of regulatory elements like IACUC, RMUA, EMUA and radiation safety protocols.
- Teach early learners in the lab as needed, from new lab personnel to summer interns.
- Collaborate, coordinate and communicate well with other laboratories and multidisciplinary teams.
- Perform other laboratory duties as assigned by supervisor.
