Description:
The Salvation Army Broadview Village is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Residential Counsellor with Prime responsibilities to support individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health challenges in a residential setting. This role ensures residents receive high-quality care, support, and advocacy to meet their personal and developmental goals within a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment.
Work Schedule:
Shifts may rotate between 7:00am–3:00pm, 1:00pm–9:00pm, 2:00pm–10:00pm, and 3:00pm–11:00pm depending on operational requirements.
Program Support:
Provide daily living support, including supervision, personal care, and medication administration.
Implement and evaluate individual program plans (IPPs) tailored to each resident’s goals and needs.
Encourage participation in community and recreational activities, fostering development and independence.
Support residents with daily routines such as meal preparation, hygiene, household chores, and social interaction.
Prime Worker Duties:
Act as the main advocate and contact for assigned residents.
Coordinate health care appointments, recreational plans, family engagement, and clothing or financial needs.
Maintain records, complete reports, and facilitate planning meetings.
Participate in program reviews and provide assessment data and documentation.
Counsellor-in-Charge (C.I.C.) Responsibilities (in absence of Residential Manager):
Oversee and delegate shift responsibilities.
Manage emergencies, staffing gaps, and ensure all procedures are followed.
Maintain shift continuity through accurate reporting and communication.
Household Management:
Adhere to dietary requirements and hygiene standards.
Manage site finances including household budgets, resident funds, transportation tokens, and supplies.
Health & Safety:
Comply with Occupational Health & Safety standards.
Conduct safety inspections, report hazards, and ensure all emergency protocols are followed.
Maintain training and certifications in CPR, First Aid, WHMIS, and crisis intervention.
Team Engagement:
Support co-workers, students, and volunteers.
Attend training sessions and contribute to the improvement of site operations and resident care quality.
Diploma in Developmental Services Work or equivalent in human services (2–3 years).
3–5 years of experience in a related field.
Valid certifications: First Aid/CPR, Crisis Intervention, and medication administration.
Computer literacy and ability to document and analyze data.
Experience in mobility assistance and personal care is an asset.
Valid Driver’s License and French language skills are considered assets.
Physically demanding work involving walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and household tasks.
Exposure to challenging behaviors, bodily fluids, odors, and risk of physical or verbal aggression.
Must follow all safety protocols and maintain professionalism in high-stress environments.
Hourly Rate: CAD 27.09 – 29.13
Monthly Equivalent: CAD 4689 – 5047
Salary placement is determined based on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.
