Description:
The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) is responsible for on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. This includes coordinating job sites, ensuring safety, communicating with dispatchers and engineers, and managing on-track safety. RWICs are expected to conduct daily job briefings, prepare reports, and ensure safe work conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide error-free and rule-compliant protection for each assignment.
Conduct daily job briefings to ensure safety compliance.
Manage and submit necessary reports, such as job setup and daily work reports.
Handle equipment like signs, derails, and other tools, ranging from 15 to 90 pounds.
Participate in safety classes and routine qualification training.
Communicate regularly with RWIC supervisors and managers.
Perform other duties as required to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of railroad or track maintenance experience.
Skills: Ability to conduct job briefings, install signs and derails, proficiency in radio communication, and understanding of on-track safety requirements.
Preferred:
2-5 years of track maintenance experience.
Prior experience within a railway company.
Training in "Track Inspection Guidelines" or equivalent.
