Senior Api Developer

Description:

Midland States Bank is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior API Developer to join its growing technology team in Weldon Spring, Missouri. This full-time on-site position plays a pivotal role in designing, developing, and managing robust and scalable RESTful APIs that support both internal operations and customer-facing applications.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping API architecture, enforcing best development practices, and mentoring junior developers, all while working in a collaborative, innovation-driven culture. You’ll participate in the full development lifecycle including architecture, coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and documentation, with an emphasis on clean code and API security.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs using Node.js and related technologies

• Lead end-to-end API development lifecycle: from architecture to deployment

• Conduct performance, security, and stress testing on APIs

• Maintain documentation and monitoring protocols for deployed services

• Collaborate with DevOps on improving and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

• Promote clean coding standards and lead code reviews and mentoring sessions

• Stay current on backend tech trends, best practices, and security requirements

• Travel occasionally for training, team meetings, or project needs

• Maintain compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other regulations

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred)

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in backend/API development

• Strong proficiency in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript

• In-depth understanding of REST API development and design

• Knowledge of API security, secure coding standards, and practices

• Hands-on experience with Git, version control, and CI/CD pipelines

• Demonstrated ability to mentor developers and lead cross-functional teams

• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in financial services or regulated environments

• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB

• Exposure to containerization/cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

• Knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger, event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
