You will be working in a fast paced, agile, and fast-growing team. The position is in Union City, California, but you will be part of a larger global assay development organization with teams in Kalamazoo, MI, Durham, NC and Farum, Denmark. As we operate in a highly matrixed cross-functional environment, you will be exposed to many different functions, each playing a critical role in the maintenance of our product portfolio.The position is a scientist excellence role that holds technical and executional responsibilities. You will be part of an active, bench-side team, managing our large on-market assay portfolio which includes both human and animal products. You will be reporting directly to the on-market support lead.

The product portfolio is a clinical chemistry-based assay portfolio to run on our point-of-care analyzers; your excellent scientific creativity will help define and develop the technical solutions in our products that in turn will be creating positive customer experiences. You will be involved in product performance improvement projects, claim extensions and product problem investigations directly related to customer complaints. You will furthermore act as a Subject Matter Expert for our manufacturing colleagues.

Ideally, you are a bench scientist with a passion for product development and customer satisfaction. You have a background in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology and you are familiar with systematic trouble shooting tools (5 whys, fishbone, fault tree) and design control for diagnostic assay development. You are driven by for-purpose study designs, DOE designs, V&V, experimental execution, data analysis, interpretation, and documentation. You are confident at executing complex data analysis and preparing figures for internal and / or external publications. You prioritize timely communication on project progress to team, peers and team lead.

You are a strong team player, highly organized, a strong communicator, hypothesis and data driven, detail oriented and willing to learn and explore new scientific venues as we continue to sustain our large on-market assay portfolio and deliver state-of-the-art diagnostic products.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Executing experimental studies bench-side with strong attention to details and high integrity in execution
  • Exhibit good knowledge of experimental designs, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
  • Communicate project updates and data presentations to local and global development teams
  • Documentation of experimental execution and results
  • Laboratory management tasks i.e. equipment maintenance
  • Effectively interact with team lead and peers
  • Work independently with limited supervision
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal skills
  • Understanding that failure is part of life and it’s an opportunity to correct and move on

Technical Skills Requirements

  • A solid technical understanding of chemistry and assay designs
  • Good knowledge of and experience with UV-Vis spectroscopy, immunoassay techniques, enzyme based chemistries, ligand binding assay, spectrophotometry
  • A track record of effectively managing complex studies from design and study execution to data interpretation and proposal for next steps
  • Exbibit excellent laboratory skills such as accurate pipetting, chemical handling, protocol execution, laboratory safety and diligent equipment maintenance
  • Solid understanding of and experience with data analysis and statistical tools such as JMP, R, and / or Python
  • Diligent and accurate documentation of study execution and results
  • Detailed planning of next steps, organization of logistics including sequestering reagents, samples for testing, organizing equipment etc.
  • Strong and transparent communication is a must
  • An explicit sense of urgency and desire to deliver at high quality and in a timely manner
  • A team player mentality is a must

Education and Experience:

  • M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunochemistry or Molecular Biology or equivalent training / experience in a relevant field
  • B.S in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunochemistry or Molecular Biology and a minimum of 2 years experience in animal research and / or a relevant laboratory science
