Senior Commissioning Technician

Description:

ABB is seeking an experienced M&G Senior Commissioning Technician to join their team. In this role, you will travel to various sites within the US—including off-shore facilities—and internationally to perform commissioning and service on motors and generators. Your responsibilities include installations, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and conducting training for clients.

You will be primarily accountable for completing installation wiring or providing technical direction to craft labor for new motor and generator installations, performing start-up and commissioning tests following factory protocols, and collaborating with the engineering department to develop task lists and installation designs. You will also facilitate mobilization, demolition, and installation activities, including equipment shipping, scheduling, and supervising craft labor on site.

The role involves maintenance and testing of generator excitation systems, protective relays, and other auxiliary equipment. You will document system issues and solutions in detailed trip reports and review them with the Design Engineering group. Additionally, the position requires providing first-response troubleshooting via phone to customer emergencies, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Associate degree with 5 years of work experience OR High school diploma with 12 years of work experience.

• Willingness to travel up to 80-90% of the time, often with little advance notice.

• Knowledge of protection and operation principles for synchronous machines connected to power grids, as well as mechanical, electrical, and control aspects of machines.

• Skills in installation engineering design, supervision, project control, execution, vibration, alignment, and troubleshooting are highly desirable.

• Ability to read and implement electrical, connection, interconnection drawings, and schematics.

• Ability to qualify for and maintain industry certifications related to safety (MSHA, OSHA, THUET, TBOSIET) and background screenings (TWIC, ISNetworld).
