Senior Database Administrator

 

Description:

Epsilon, a leading IT services company serving federal government and commercial clients, is seeking a Database Administrator III to provide strategic and technical leadership in managing enterprise-wide database systems. This role supports data-driven initiatives such as AI/ML, data productization, and automation, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performance database environments across classified and unclassified domains.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure database systems supporting classified and unclassified data.

  • Develop long-term database strategies aligned with organizational growth.

  • Manage lifecycle and data integrity of bronze, silver, and gold data tables.

  • Lead performance tuning and query optimization to improve resource utilization.

  • Oversee backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution.

  • Establish data governance, security policies, and regulatory compliance enforcement.

  • Serve as a technical expert for AI/ML data needs and database integration with analytics pipelines.

  • Drive continuous improvement using automation, CI/CD best practices, and infrastructure as code.

  • Mentor junior/mid-level DBAs and foster professional development.

  • Support data migration and ETL processes ensuring data consistency.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance and reliability issues.

  • Assist with compliance audits and implement security measures.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with application and analytics teams.


Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • 5+ years database administration experience in complex, enterprise environments.

  • DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., GSEC, CySA+, Security+, SSCP) may be required.

  • Expert in SQL tuning, database architecture, high-availability solutions.

  • Experience with SQL and Databricks integration for large-scale data analytics.

  • Skilled in managing relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.

  • Proficient in ETL, data modeling, advanced indexing, and Python coding for data pipelines.

  • Agile project experience using Jira or similar tools.

  • Automation skills with tools like Ansible and Terraform.

  • Knowledge of cloud services (AWS Aurora), containerization (Kubernetes).

  • Strong understanding of security frameworks, data encryption, and compliance.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Apache Spark or distributed data processing.

  • Knowledge of data governance tools (Collibra) and cloud analytics (Databricks).

  • Experience with BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.

  • Familiarity with data access control best practices (Immuta).

  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Developer, Databricks, Agile/Scrum, Python programming.


Additional Requirements:

  • Must hold or be able to obtain an active DOD Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI clearance.

  • Must live within two hours commute of Falls Church, VA.

  • Some travel may be required.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with prolonged computer work.
