Senior Database Administrator

Description:

WaferWire Cloud Technologies (WCT) is seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL DBA to join their Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. This role is pivotal in designing, deploying, and maintaining highly available, scalable, and secure PostgreSQL database environments to support their growing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage PostgreSQL databases across production and development environments.

• Build and deploy containerized PostgreSQL database images using Docker and optionally Kubernetes.

• Configure, tune, and maintain PostgreSQL instances to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

• Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation tools.

• Monitor database health and proactively troubleshoot and resolve issues.

• Collaborate with SREs to implement high availability, disaster recovery, and robust backup and security protocols.

• Support incident response, service requests, and change management relating to database systems.

Required Qualifications:

• 8 to 10 years of professional experience as a PostgreSQL DBA or similar role.

• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, replication, clustering, and performance tuning.

• Hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible.

• Experience working with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with database monitoring tools and best practices.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

• Knowledge of other databases such as MySQL or MongoDB is a plus.

• Relevant certifications (e.g., PostgreSQL certifications, Azure Database Administrator Associate).
