Senior Environmental Analyst

 

Description:

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking a highly experienced Principal Air Quality & Acoustics Analyst to lead multi-faceted CEQA/NEPA projects on complex municipal and private development initiatives. The role requires collaboration with scientists, engineers, architects, and other specialists to ensure high-quality environmental analyses, regulatory compliance, and client deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct CEQA/NEPA projects, preparing comprehensive air quality, energy, greenhouse gas, and noise analyses.

  • Conduct technical work, prepare reports, and ensure deliverables are clear, concise, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Manage client interactions, serve as a technical and regulatory expert, and represent ESA in marketing and business development activities.

  • Mentor and guide junior staff, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback to foster professional growth.

  • Lead the preparation of project proposals, scopes of work, and budgets, including cost amendments when necessary.

  • Participate in or lead client meetings, community workshops, and public hearings to effectively communicate technical information.

  • Maintain familiarity with modeling software such as Microsoft Excel, CalEEMod, EMFAC, AERMOD, and RCNM.

  • Stay current on air quality, noise, and environmental regulations and guidance documents.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, urban, or transportation planning; atmospheric science; climate and sustainability; geography; public policy; or related field

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in environmental analysis and regulatory compliance

  • Proven experience in preparing CEQA/NEPA documentation and client deliverables

  • Familiarity with California Department of Transportation templates, airports, seaports, public infrastructure, recreation/parks, and planning documents

Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in air quality regulations, permitting, and noise ordinances

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills

  • Proficient in emissions and noise modeling and QA/QC processes

  • Ability to lead technical teams and manage multiple complex projects

  • Client-focused with strong business development and marketing skills
