Senior Finance Generalist

Description:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) at UVA seeks a Senior Finance Generalist to oversee financial operations, including budgeting, payroll, accounting, financial reporting, and capital equipment purchasing.

The role ensures efficient departmental resource use and adherence to financial regulations and policies. The candidate will analyze data to support strategic decisions and serve as a financial liaison with the Dean’s Office of the Engineering School. Continuous learning and adaptability are expected as departmental needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee budgeting, accounting, payroll, and financial reporting.

• Ensure compliance with university financial regulations and policies.

• Analyze data to support strategic decision-making.

• Serve as financial liaison to the Dean’s Office of the Engineering School.

• Contribute to daily operations and process improvements.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional experience).

• Proficiency in Workday Financials (budgeting, period activity pay, costing allocations/adjustments, journal entries, expense reports, reporting).

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

• Commitment to exceptional customer service.

• Ability to work independently and in teams.

• Proven ability to adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced proficiency in Workday Financials.

• Knowledge of University financial policies.

Physical Demands:

• Primarily sedentary with extensive computer use.

• Occasional travel to attend meetings/events.
