Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – ATVs to join their team in Newnan, GA. This role involves designing, developing, and improving parts and systems for off-road recreational vehicles with a strong focus on function, performance, durability, weight reduction, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacturing. The Senior Design Engineer will also have opportunities to lead vehicle development projects and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the design and development of parts for recreational vehicles from concept to production.

• Lead vehicle projects according to schedule and budget, providing guidance to support engineers.

• Design and engineer parts, assemblies, and vehicles using 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) to meet testing and cost targets.

• Create 2D drawings for quotations and fabrication.

• Conduct design research, propose solutions, and develop innovative concepts.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments and external partners.

• Oversee testing requirements and ensure project milestones are achieved.

• Present project status updates to executives as per the stage gate process.

Key Components Developed:

• Chassis (welded or bolt-on, steel tubes, forgings, and stampings)

• Suspension and steering systems

• Driver controls (steering wheels, pedals, levers, switches)

• Plastic bodywork

• Seats and ergonomics

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

• 5–7 years of experience in designing and developing parts for recreational vehicles or automotive products.

• Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

• Hands-on experience with vehicle building and testing preferred.

• Experience in consumer plastic and/or metal part design required.

• Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD software is a plus.
