LEO A DALY, a global leader in architecture, engineering, interiors, and design, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to join its Omaha, Nebraska office. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned mechanical engineer capable of leading teams, managing complex projects, and ensuring that all mechanical systems are designed and executed with precision, innovation, and sustainability in mind. This position is best suited for professionals with a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system design who thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Lead major projects as the primary mechanical engineer, responsible for project vision, technical quality, and implementation.
Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and plumbing designers, ensuring efficient workload distribution and performance excellence.
Oversee all stages of mechanical engineering design, including concept development, system calculations, equipment selection, layout design, and documentation.
Prepare detailed project deliverables such as HVAC plans, piping schematics, control diagrams, schedules, and cost estimates.
Conduct and review engineering analyses to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and sustainability objectives (ASHRAE, LEED, Energy Codes, etc.).
Perform quality control reviews for project documents, technical specifications, and system designs to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Carry out site visits, investigations, and assessments to gather technical data and verify design implementation.
Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
Contribute to firmwide initiatives and strategic goals related to technical quality, innovation, and professional excellence.
Education & Licensure:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical emphasis) from an ABET-accredited institution.
Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
Professional Experience:
Minimum 15 years of mechanical engineering experience within the A/E industry.
Proven track record of managing large, complex projects.
Experience in healthcare and/or federal sector projects preferred.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and energy efficiency regulations (LEED, ASHRAE, etc.).
Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD for design and documentation.
Hands-on experience with load calculation, system sizing, and energy modeling software.
Strong project management and team leadership skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Self-motivated, organized, and capable of mentoring junior engineers and designers.
