Social Media Manager

Description:

We're hiring a Social Media Manager to take ownership of the creative work across a portfolio of accounts. You'll play a large role in managing projects and keeping them on track internally, collaborating on strategy and creative direction, and creating content yourself — content shoots on location, editing short-form video, designing static assets, and writing the copy that goes with it. On larger productions with hired crew, you'll build the shot list and run the day rather than operating the camera.
This is a seat with autonomy that requires the right experience and a non-negotiable attention to detail. You'll play a large role in setting direction for the accounts and be accountable for how they perform, working closely with the founders on anything that affects scope, budget, or the health of the relationship.
Key Responsibilities

Creative direction and strategy

Lead the creative direction for the accounts you work on — the look, the voice, the content approach, and the reasoning behind it. This is a team effort but you will be leaned on for setting the stage in many cases
Build and maintain social strategy for each account: channel mix, content pillars, cadence, and the metrics that define success
Translate business objectives into content plans a founder or marketing lead can understand and sign off on
Track platform changes and audience behavior, and make the call on which shifts are worth acting on
Content production

Shoot content on location — product, food, in-store b-roll, founder talking-head, event coverage. Most of this is iPhone-quality work; comfort with a DSLR is a plus
Edit short-form video from raw footage, with strong instincts for hooks, pacing, captions, and sound
Design static assets: graphics, carousels, stories, and brand-consistent templates
Write captions and short-form copy in each client's voice
Build shot lists and run production days, including directing freelance photographers and videographers on larger shoots
Own the content calendar across your accounts and keep the pipeline far enough ahead that deadlines aren't a weekly scramble
Intentionally clip long-form content into social-optimized short-form
Project management

Own delivery across your accounts — what's getting made, who's making it, and when it ships
Hold the calendar and the deadlines. Keep the pipeline far enough ahead that nothing comes down to a Friday scramble — calendars are produced well ahead of time and content is sent for approvals 2-4 weeks at a time
Brief and direct freelancers on production days, and junior team members as we add them
Own the results: know how each account is performing, why, and what you're changing about it
Track scope. When a request falls outside the retainer, flag it to the founders before work starts
Surface risk early — slipping timelines, budget questions, underperforming content — while there's still time to fix it
Reporting

Deliver monthly performance reporting that connects the numbers to decisions — what moved, why, and what we're changing
Maintain clean, current documentation in Notion so any account can be picked up by someone else without a briefing call
Team

As the roster grows, help hire, onboard, and manage junior team members supporting your accounts
Build the repeatable processes that let execution scale past what any one person can touch where needed
Performance Expectations & KPIs

Client retention. No account lost for reasons of delivery or quality. Missed deadlines, work that didn't meet the standard, and results that went unaddressed are within your control — pricing, budget changes, and client-side decisions are not.
Account performance. Each client has growth and engagement targets set during onboarding and reviewed quarterly — reach, engagement rate, follower growth, and where applicable, traffic, leads, or conversions attributable to social. Accounts in your portfolio are expected to hit or beat those targets, and where they don't, you're expected to know why and have a plan.
Content quality and consistency. Every account posting at agreed cadence, with work that meets our standard rather than filling a slot.
On-time delivery. 95%+ of committed deliverables shipped by the agreed date. Dates that need to move are renegotiated in advance.
Account growth. At least one retainer expansion or added scope per year across your portfolio, earned through results the client can see.

Formal reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days, then quarterly.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

4+ years in social media, content, or account management, ideally including time as the primary point of contact for clients rather than supporting someone else in that seat
Unrelenting attention to detail and quality. This is non-negotiable for success in this role.
Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit your own content, with a portfolio of short-form work you personally produced
Strong instincts for short-form video, and the ability to explain why something works rather than just recognizing that it does
Excellent writing — captions, short-form copy, and clear professional client communication
Composure under production pressure. Shoot days go sideways, and we need someone who adjusts and keeps the day on track
The organization to run several accounts at once without dropping threads, and the judgment to flag capacity issues before they affect delivery
Experience with Notion of very similar tool for day-to-day project and task management, or being very skilled at learning and evolving new workflows

Preferred

Agency experience, particularly where you both managed the relationship and produced the work
Background in one or more of our verticals: food and beverage, retail or grocery, consumer brands, political, or media and podcasting
Experience hiring, training, or managing others
Paid social experience — campaign strategy, build, and optimization
Fluency with AI tools as part of a production workflow
