Software Development Director

Description:

Oracle is hiring a Software Development Director for their OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) Compute Control Plane team based in Nashville, TN. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving the strategic direction, architectural decisions, and operational execution of critical OCI services related to managing Compute instances — both Bare Metal and Virtual Machine — including GPU-enabled platforms.

The successful candidate will oversee the development and deployment of high-scale distributed systems, design and automate CI/CD pipelines to minimize operational risks, manage service availability, and lead organizational growth through hiring, mentoring, and strategic vision execution. This is an onsite role with no remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership & Strategic Vision:
  Lead organizational planning, establish team missions, define KPIs, and develop hiring plans to scale operations. Set strategic direction aligned with OCI’s product and platform objectives.

• Technical Management:
  Own and execute the roadmap for core cloud services in collaboration with Product Management. Design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines with a focus on minimal customer impact and high availability.

• Operational Excellence:
  Drive service reliability by leading root cause analysis and implementing post-mortem improvements. Oversee on-call structures, incident response, and continuous system enhancement.

• People Management:
  Mentor managers and engineers across distributed teams. Oversee a team structure of 20+ engineers, including multiple direct report managers. Ensure productivity, diversity, and inclusion in team culture.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

• 10+ years of software management experience

• Proven expertise in large-scale distributed systems

• Proficiency in Java, Python, or Golang

• Experience designing REST APIs and working with SQL and relational databases

• Leadership experience managing 20+ individuals, including multiple managers

• Strong foundation in algorithm design and complexity analysis

• Experience building roadmaps and communicating strategic plans

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with virtualization and orchestration stacks

• Prior experience working with cloud providers and distributed infrastructure

• Experience managing geographically distributed teams

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Salary Range: $122500 – $291800 annually
  → Monthly Equivalent: $10208 – $24316

• May include bonus, stock options, and compensation deferral
