Software Engineer

Description:

PNNL is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and optimize scalable backend systems for AI, data analytics, and national security applications. You’ll work on multi-modal intelligence platforms, large-scale data pipelines, and AI/ML systems, contributing to mission-critical projects with immediate real-world impact. This role provides mentorship, exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and opportunities to grow in AI/ML engineering, cloud computing, and enterprise-scale system design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop backend systems for AI/ML and multi-intelligence fusion platforms.

• Build and optimize large-scale ETL pipelines and data workflows.

• Contribute to cloud-native data architectures and intelligence analytics platforms.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in code reviews.

• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of deployed systems.

Requirements:

• Education: PhD, MS/MA, or BS/BA + 2 years relevant experience.

• Strong Python skills; experience with additional language (C#, Java, JavaScript, etc.).

• Basic cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP); familiarity with Linux.

• Understanding of software engineering best practices, version control, CI/CD, Agile/Scrum.

• Preferred: experience with machine learning pipelines, cloud architecture, high-performance analytics.

• U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain federal security clearance.
