At Chewy we are building a team to launch a Sponsored Advertising business and looking for a Staff Software Engineer. Sponsored Ads enables brands on Chewy to promote products directly to their target customers at the moment they are looking for products and ready to make a purchase. This provides brands with the ability to generate additional sales and customer awareness by showcasing relevant products in premier positions on Chewy. Advertising is a critical component of the ecommerce ecosystem and provides a critical revenue stream to the company.

- Serve as a technical lead member of a newly formed engineering team building the ads platform.
- Design, develop, and implement large scale distributed systems that process and serve large volumes of data and operate with very low latency.
- Hold a high bar for the quality of the architecture and design of systems.
- Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
- Decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions that operationally scale and are easily maintained.
- Instill engineering excellence in the team and have the drive to focus on scalability, resiliency, high availability and performance of applications.
- Actively mentor engineers, build and foster a strong engineering team culture, and be a key contributor in raising the bar of the engineering org.
- Generate and analyze engineering metrics to inform leadership and make data driven decisions.
- Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication and convey dissenting opinions in a constructive manner.
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience and Domain expertise in digital advertising or marketing technologies.
- Demonstrated experience taking a project from inception through launch.
- Bachelors in Computer Science or related field.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and programming skills.
- Experience developing software in an agile environment with CI/CD.
- Expert understanding how to build and scale cloud-based applications.
- Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, JS, React, Vue or similar programming language and technology.
- Strong fundamentals on building and scaling cloud based solutions (AWS).
- Proficiency in designing scalable, distributed, low latency and high throughput systems.
- Position may require occasional travel.
