Software Engineering Lead

 

Description:

HCLSoftware, a rapidly growing division of HCL Technologies with a $1B software business, is hiring an experienced Change and Configuration Software Engineer and People Manager to join its global, multidisciplinary development team. This is a remote position open exclusively to U.S. citizens located in EST or CST time zones.

This dual-role opportunity combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will oversee a distributed software engineering team responsible for building and enhancing configuration and change management tools, with an emphasis on modern programming languages and frameworks such as C, C++, and Java.

HCLSoftware develops and maintains over 20 product families across various domains including AI & Ops, Business Applications, Cybersecurity, Data & Analytics, and Total Experience. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, technically adept leader capable of driving innovation, mentoring engineers, and aligning technical execution with business goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in the development and delivery of innovative change and configuration management solutions

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements and strategies

  • Drive timely delivery of software components that meet or exceed customer expectations

  • Ensure high team performance through goal setting, coaching, performance reviews, and professional development

  • Contribute to roadmap planning and provide strategic technical input

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with global development teams

  • Manage staffing needs including recruitment, team formation, and training

  • Ensure adherence to best practices in Agile methodologies and software quality standards

  • Maintain a customer-first mindset and assist in troubleshooting complex technical issues


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Experience:

    • 8–15 years in software product engineering with modern languages (C, C++, Java)

    • 2–3 years of recent experience in people management in software development

  • Certifications: Not required, but Agile or DevOps certifications are a plus

  • Work Authorization: Must be a U.S. Citizen (No visa or Green Card holders accepted)

  • Travel: Occasional travel required (up to 5%)


Required Skills:

  • Strong hands-on programming background in C, C++, or Java

  • Deep experience with configuration and change management tools

  • Familiarity with DevOps, Cloud computing, and Unix/Linux environments

  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and distributed team collaboration

  • High emotional intelligence and team leadership abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen

  • Ability to work across time zones and cultural contexts


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with DevOps pipelines and Cloud deployment models

  • Willingness to integrate AI tools to boost engineering productivity

  • Strong grasp of customer support and issue resolution processes


Benefits:

  • Remote work from anywhere in the U.S. (EST or CST strongly preferred)

  • Base Salary: $150,000–$190,000/year ($12500–$15833/month) + annual performance bonuses
