Software Scrum Leader

The VMEC (Vehicle Motion and Embedded Controls) team is comprised of inclusive and diverse Agile teams, where everyone has a voice in the conversation. Our Software Development process translates Customer requirements into designs, creates code, executes testing, and then integrates our solutions into reality. We are currently looking for candidates to fill Scum Leader roles.

The Scrum Leader manages a scrum team (9-12 engineers) in designing and implementing technical software solutions for VMEC features. We utilize the standard Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) process. The Scrum Leader must collaborate with multiple areas of the business (Stakeholders, Customers, other scrums, and the Product Management Team). This role requires the highest level of leadership and technical background. We are seeking creative, highly motivated, agile thinkers with passion and expertise in Controls & Software.

Responsibilities:

Be the leader and coach for an Agile Team on Agile Release Train (ART)

  • Facilitate the Agile team's SAFe ceremonies including daily standups, iteration review, iteration planning, and their retrospective
  • Attend and actively engage in the Scrum of Scrums, and Scrum Lead
  • Prepare the team and assist the RTE with PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshop
  • Owner and creator of the Teams' Kanban board to help the team complete their committed work
  • Coordinate inter-team cooperation when needed
  • Support Agile Team practices. Some examples are: work in progress limits (WIP), Plan-Do-Check-Adjust Cycle, Innovation & Planning (IP), and fostering technical discipline
  • Primary coach for their team and acts as a Lean-agile leader and servant leader.
  • Guide the team on writing good stories by using the INVEST method and three Cs
  • Guide the team on how to properly story point and establish normalized estimates.
  • Lead the team to improve and take responsibility for their actions (done by empowering them to find the right solutions and following through on them).
  • Focus' the team on completing their team PI Objectives with quality
  • Continuously challenge the team's normal ways of development to improve areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity
  • Encourage the team to relentlessly improve through education and innovation. The scrum lead may jump start this activity
  • Eliminate impediments; this can include working with other teams within or outside their ART
  • Work closely with the Product Owner and support backlog activities
  • Develop team through the Storming, Forming, Norming and Performing stages through managing interpersonal conflicts and challenges.
  • Escalate problems to the right people at the right time, but only after team's internal attempts have failed
  • Engage with the metrics and the RTE to improve team's performance
  • Document requirements for design solutions and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionality
  • Utilize automated test tools in build environments, benches, and vehicles to verify functionality at the Function, Controller and System level
  • Coordinate and collaborate with departments outside engineering, such as Systems & Safety Engineering, Electrical Architecture, Calibration and Vehicle Performance

Qualifications - Required

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other applicable Engineering focuses.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Python
  • Scaled Agile or Agile experience (SAFe)
  • Ability to set and balance priorities efficiently
  • Strong ability to function within and drive change.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
  • Strong partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust
  • Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric
  • Experience in model based development (Matlab/Simulink)
