Special Education Teacher

Description:

The Olean City School District invites applications for the position of Summer School Special Education Teacher. The role focuses on helping students achieve commencement-level education by providing learning experiences aligned with New York State Learning Standards and curriculum. The teacher will work in designated locations and times during the summer school session.

Key Responsibilities:

• Instruct assigned classes and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within available resources

• Prepare lesson plans and demonstrate written preparation upon request

• Encourage students to uphold classroom behavior standards

• Use various instructional techniques and media tailored to students’ needs and physical classroom settings

• Ensure safety of students, equipment, and facilities

• Regularly evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy

• Enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies

• Maintain confidentiality and be available to students and parents for educational support outside instructional hours as needed

• Collaborate with staff, related service providers, and general education personnel to meet students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals

• Participate in CSE and 504 committee meetings as necessary

• Manage classroom materials and assist teacher aides and volunteers

• Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other resources to enhance teaching

• Establish clear lesson objectives and communicate them to students

• Work closely with parents, counselors, and administrators to resolve behavioral and academic challenges

• Maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues, students, and parents

Qualifications:

• Qualifications as set by New York State and additional qualifications determined by the Board of Education

• Commitment to helping students succeed in accordance with NYS Learning Standards

• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Terms of Employment:

• 10-month position

• Salary and work year established by Board of Education
