Sr Data Scientist

Description:

S&P Global is seeking a Senior Data Scientist specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and Generative AI (GenAI) to join their Richmond, VA office. This role is ideal for professionals with a solid foundation in developing machine learning solutions and a passion for driving innovation in NLP and GenAI.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop custom ML and GenAI models for batch and streaming pipelines, including data ingestion, preprocessing, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), model tuning, and prompt engineering.

• Evaluate model performance using robust validation and testing methodologies, ensuring consistency, reliability, and high accuracy.

• Deploy models in collaboration with MLOps teams to ensure scalability and maintainability in production environments.

• Collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineers to integrate ML models seamlessly into products.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of all modeling workflows and technical processes.

• Follow best practices and compliance standards as established by the organization’s Data Science and MLOps leadership.

• Troubleshoot complex machine learning challenges and propose innovative, scalable solutions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

• At least 1+ year of practical experience in developing ML/NLP/GenAI solutions.

• Proficiency in Python and experience with tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Hugging Face, and Spark.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience with transformer-based NLP architectures, information retrieval (keyword and semantic search), and embedding-based models.

• Familiarity with developing, fine-tuning, and deploying LLMs and implementing Generative AI workflows.

• Strong understanding of NLP concepts including extractive/generative models, embeddings, and prompt engineering.

• Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience contributing to open-source projects, research publications, or Kaggle competitions.

• Understanding of industry trends in LLMs and the evolving landscape of open-source GenAI tools.
