Sr Software Engineer

Description:

CBS Sports, a division of Paramount and a global leader in cross-platform sports coverage, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Android) to help enhance and modernize its digital sports offerings. This full-time remote role offers the opportunity to be part of a high-impact, agile development team that powers key features for the CBS Sports Android application.

The selected engineer will play a central role in building and refining the CBS Sports Android app, including modernization initiatives and sports betting integrations. Working with a distributed team, the engineer will help architect, develop, and maintain high-quality native Android features and libraries, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Android expert with strong Kotlin and Java experience, as well as a keen eye for UI/UX and agile collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain new product features in Kotlin for CBS Sports’ Android applications

• Debug and fix defects as identified by QA, users, or team members

• Review peer code and enforce coding best practices, especially within Modern Android Development (MAD) standards

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate across distributed teams in Kansas City, Fort Lauderdale, and Sydney

• Monitor and manage issues in market-released versions of the app

• Research and implement new SDKs, tools, and platform requirements

• Contribute to internal libraries and maintain codebase stability

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

• 5+ years of experience in Android development, with strong expertise in Kotlin and Java

• Proficiency in Git/Git Flow and build tools (Gradle, Maven, CI/CD)

• Strong foundation in memory management, thread synchronization, and event-driven programming

• UI/UX design understanding for Android interfaces

• Experience working on Play Store-released apps and integrating third-party tools (e.g., video players, subscription services)

• Strong communication skills and experience working in distributed, cross-functional teams

• Prior experience mentoring junior developers or team members

• Agile development lifecycle experience

Nice to Have:

• Experience with publishing Android libraries to Maven repositories

• Familiarity with GitHub Actions for CI/CD automation
