Staff Software Engineer

Description:

Come build the first multi-sided Global Benefits Marketplace.

Every year, employers and employees spend over $5 trillion on benefits globally. From health insurance to saving for retirement, these benefits products guide families through some of the most important and impactful decisions in life.

Despite the significance of these products and the dollars spent, the experience is still painfully antiquated, expensive, and confusing.

Rippling is building the first modern multi-sided marketplace that seamlessly connects brokers, employers, and employees with any benefit. Our platform powers discovery, purchase, and use of benefits products around the world.

Our benefits vertical includes our Benefits Platform (recommendations, payments, and our benefits eligibility engine), our rapidly growing Benefits Marketplace of over 100 partners, and our natively-built Rippling Benefits Products.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect a configurable benefits platform that enables rapid rollout of new benefit types without shipping new code—own schemas, validation, pricing rules, and self-serve configuration.
  • Unify fragmented systems across regions by defining a shared data model and executing phased migrations (shadowing, dual-writes, safe rollback) to deliver a single global experience.
  • Close feature and integration gaps for SMBs by prioritizing customer-impacting work and measuring outcomes via adoption, win-rate, and retention.
  • Build tools and insights for brokers and admins, including utilization dashboards and proactive alerts that highlight under-used benefits and drive engagement.
  • Influence across boundaries—align infra, security, compliance, and product teams; communicate tradeoffs clearly; build consensus and keep the program on track through delivery.
  • Innovate and Lead: Design and develop high-quality software products, driving architectural decisions and overseeing the complete product delivery lifecycle.
  • Collaborate and Execute: Coordinate cross-team collaborations, integrate customer feedback into the product engineering roadmap, and drive successful delivery execution.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

What you will need:

  • Extensive Experience: 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on building large-scale platforms for web applications.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in developing complex, distributed services using languages such as Python, Golang, or Java.
  • Cloud Experience (Bonus): Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms is a plus.
  • Product Ownership: A commitment to owning the product lifecycle and solving real-world problems for our customers.
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: Passionate about working in a product-focused environment with a deep commitment to customer impact.
