Description:

Carilion Clinic is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join their team on the evening shift at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. This role is essential in maintaining the highest standards of patient care through proper decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies.

The position involves operating various sterilizers, ensuring proper loading, cycle monitoring, and documentation, as well as performing quality checks to maintain compliance with sterilization standards. The technician will also handle disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and wrapping of instruments using aseptic techniques, prioritize emergency requests, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical supplies.

• Operate and monitor various sterilizers, verifying sterilization parameters.

• Maintain documentation and tracking of sterilized items with assigned lot numbers.

• Assemble and package instrument trays, ensuring compliance with aseptic techniques.

• Replace lost or damaged instrument parts and report deficiencies to team leaders or managers.

• Dispense sterile and non-sterile supplies, prioritizing emergency requests as required.

• Maintain clean and organized work areas while adhering to safety and infection control standards.

• Function effectively during crisis situations with sound judgment and timely communication.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year in sterile processing or related field.

• Certification: CRCST preferred or working toward certification.

• Other Requirements: Basic interpersonal skills, satisfactory completion of orientation, ability to perform essential duties of the position.
