Description:

Mercy Health, a faith-based and patient-focused healthcare organization, is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. This role is vital for ensuring patient safety by inspecting, cleaning, assembling, testing, and processing surgical instruments and patient care equipment according to established policies, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory standards.

The Sterile Processing Technician works under general supervision and is expected to uphold sterility and infection control standards as outlined by AAMI, JCAHO, CDC, and state guidelines. The primary duties may vary depending on the assigned area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform decontamination, manual cleaning, and processing of surgical instruments and patient care equipment

  • Apply appropriate detergents and chemical disinfectants to remove blood, bone, and other tissues, adhering to standard precautions

  • Inventory, stock, deliver, and rotate supplies and equipment while maintaining proper documentation

  • Conduct quality control procedures, including instrument tracking, surgery schedules, surgeon preference cards, and supply management

  • Operate various sterilizers, monitor sterilization processes using chemical and biological indicators, and maintain aseptic assembly protocols

  • Document all activities accurately and report any variances affecting sterile product quality or patient safety

Education & Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

  • Certification required within 2 years of hire from one of the following:

    • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)

    • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)

    • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in a surgical setting (preferred)

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

  • Strong critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, infection control, surgical conscience, and professionalism

  • Ability to work under pressure, anticipate needs, and move with urgency

  • EPIC training preferred
