Duties

This position serves as the Technical Director and senior civilian. The program provides support services for management, planning, design, construction, repair, environmental support and procurement of Coast Guard shore facilities.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Working closely with the Commanding Officer (CO), Executive Officer (XO), Detachment Supervisor, and SILC Planning Officers to develop a prioritized program of construction and environmental projects that address the customer’s highest priorities first and that is aligned with available funding.
  • Managing the design and construction portions of the civil engineering program in conformance with program objectives and Coast Guard policy.
  • Assigning, tracking, coordinating, reviewing and approving the work.
  • Participating in all aspects of Acquisition, Construction and Improvements program development, including Facility Asset Manager (FAM) coordination with the operating field units (field customers) and Shore Infrastructure Logistics Command (SILC) program review boards.
  • Making recommendations and implementing actions involving highly complex technical problems, including those that apply to controversial or unusual integrated systems; and integrates issues across all disciplines.
  • Directing subordinates and participates on a multi-disciplinary team performing Design Build and Design Bid Build projects with critical architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical components.
  • Delivering formal presentations and reports to higher level agency groups concerned with program projects.
  • Function as first line supervisor for up to three GS-13 Supervisory Section Chiefs and two or more military personnel typically in the O-2 - O-4 grade. Provides second level supervision for approximately 10-20 full time civilian and military personnel encompassing GS-09 though GS-13 and 02 through O-3 billets.
