Survey Crew Member

Description:

McAdams, a full-service land planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, transportation, and geomatics firm, is seeking an Instrument Operator I to join its survey crew team. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience in field surveying, equipment maintenance, and data collection. The role is ideal for individuals eager to develop skills in geomatics, civil engineering, and surveying while working alongside experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the survey crew chief with daily fieldwork and data collection activities.

• Understand and operate surveying equipment following company standards and guidelines.

• Set up back sights, foresights, and survey instruments accurately to ensure data precision.

• Load and maintain necessary supplies and equipment in company vehicles.

• Support truck and equipment maintenance, organization, and cleanliness.

• Execute Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in pre- and post-job briefings.

• Escalate potential hazards or unsafe working conditions.

• Maintain positive client relations and represent McAdams professionally in the field.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• No experience required; must have a willingness to learn.

• Hardworking, detail-oriented, punctual, and dependable.

• Valid driver’s license required.

• Must pass motor vehicle records check, drug test, and functional assessment.

• Ability to develop effective working relationships with managers and peers.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Primarily outdoor work under varying environmental conditions.

• Long-term standing and frequent walking; must carry, lift, and push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to stand or walk 8-12 hours per day.

• Weekend, overtime, and overnight work or travel may be required.
