Description:
The Director, Sustaining Capabilities will establish, resource, and manage a ring-fenced Sustaining organization specifically driven to initially address component end-of-life (EOL) in support of ILS Techflow and ILS PSP contracts, and ultimately expanding to all Sustaining activities pertaining to the SDI Americas product portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Job duties to include but are not limited to;
- To develop and refine decision trees for the appropriate determination of specific EOL action most appropriate to the business (e.g. last-time buys at varying volumes, alternate sourcing, or component re-engineering), with the goal of maintaining forward production expectations and enabling the meeting of service metrics
- To create and maintain pathways for input from relevant functions outside of Technology (Service, Operations, Supply Chain, contractors), including metrics, consumption rates, and production schedules to maintain ILS contractual deliverables
- To be the interface with other Functional and Project Managers to ensure alignment on projects and activities
- To track & evaluate harvesting progress against Sustaining support relative to established processes
- To ensure the appropriate consumption of last-time-buy (LTB) raw materials before transition to new designs to prevent unnecessary scrap
- To work with appropriate customer-facing point of contact to effectively communicate EOL activities
- To assist in forecasting & budgeting processes for follow-on Sustaining contract proposals and Technology resourcing planning
- Effective leadership, performance management, and development of a team of technical engineering professionals shared with other functions
- Efficiently liaise with Technology functional directors to ensure resources are managed appropriately (resources will report directly to existing Technology functional leaders)
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with critical adjacent functions with the goal of establishing a routine cadence of reliable metrics
- Effectively exploit and develop the knowledge of people from all functions
- Create inclusive and coordinated development environments to maximize the effectiveness of teams and develop individuals
- Technical oversight of the Sustaining organization created in support of ILS contract EOL and Sustaining concerns
- Thoughtful consideration of all inputs (service consumption rates, projected volumes / last-time-buys, refurbishments, and technical redesign) when guiding team toward EOL resolution activities
- Effectively prioritizes multiple and simultaneous EOL activities to ensure no impact to production and service commitments
- Works with the team to develop innovative technology solutions in support of EOL component concerns when warranted
- Creates and maintains pathways for financing Sustaining activities (invoicing, etc.) appropriately through ILS contract mechanisms
- Updates budgets and forecasts for Sustaining activities and holds to financial commitments
- Develops strong lines of communication with key stakeholders both internally (e.g. Product Management, Operations, Service) and externally (e.g. customers, suppliers and partner organizations)
- Ensures adherence to business policies, HS&E, legal requirements, ethics, and government contract elements
Qualifications
Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university in Engineering or other technical discipline; Master’s degree and/or additional educational training or skills development preferred
Experience:
· Experience in Engineering or other technical development role, with emphasis placed on experience with multi-functional project management and/or sustainment management for highly technical products
