Systems Engineer

 

Description:

MetroStar is seeking an experienced and security-cleared Systems Engineer (5240) to join its dynamic team in Washington, DC. This role involves working closely with a team of engineers and key government stakeholders to design, build, and optimize mission-critical systems that support federal operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, problem-solving capability, and a proactive mindset to enhance system reliability, performance, and security.

This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance, as the role involves working on sensitive federal systems and infrastructures. The engineer will play a key role in defining system architecture, integrating emerging technologies, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal standards and cybersecurity frameworks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define and document system requirements, architecture, and design specifications.

  • Evaluate customer requests for new systems, applications, and service standards to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with mission goals.

  • Build and optimize core platform functions to support robust and scalable infrastructure.

  • Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain compliance with industry and federal security standards.

  • Perform system design analysis and validation to ensure solutions meet technical and operational requirements.

  • Maintain and manage on-premise VMWare infrastructure and ensure high availability of mission-critical systems.

  • Work closely with IT, DevSecOps, and client teams to integrate automation and containerization best practices.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience as a Systems Engineer managing and supporting on-premise mission-critical systems.

  • Strong expertise with VMWare infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.

  • Proficiency in containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) and CI/CD automation pipelines.

  • Experience working in a DevSecOps environment with a focus on secure and continuous integration practices.

  • Solid understanding of Ubuntu and Linux system administration.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering).

  • Active TS/SCI clearance (mandatory; clearance sponsorship not available).

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a solutions-oriented mindset.

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • Experience with system monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Grafana, or Prometheus.

  • Expertise in container orchestration platforms (Rancher, OpenShift, etc.).

  • Experience in hardening and securing containers in sensitive environments.

  • Previous exposure to commercial cloud environments (AWS, Azure).

  • Passion for learning and applying new technologies, methodologies, and automation tools.
