Technical Designer

Description:

YJM Apparel Group, a recognized leader in men’s and kids’ apparel for national retailers and private labels, is seeking a detail-oriented and technically adept Technical Designer to join its New York-based product development team. The company operates in a fast-paced, design-centric environment and is committed to maintaining high quality and fit standards across all its garments.

The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in bridging design and production processes, primarily focusing on creating clear, accurate, and timely sample comments. This position involves reviewing samples, communicating with overseas factories, and ensuring garments are production-ready with consistent fit and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Measure and review development and pre-production samples for accuracy and alignment with brand standards.

• Generate comprehensive sample comments incorporating fit notes, construction feedback, and photographic references.

• Collaborate closely with design and production departments to maintain consistency in garment fit and specification.

• Update technical packages and spec sheets based on sample revisions.

• Communicate clearly and efficiently with overseas manufacturing partners for approvals and corrections.

• Track sample progress and maintain organized logs and comment files.

• Attend fittings and accurately document all relevant fit feedback.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Designer in the apparel industry (menswear or kidswear strongly preferred).

• Strong technical understanding of garment construction, spec measurement, and grading principles.

• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for commenting and creating tech packs.

• Strong organizational and time management skills with a keen attention to detail.

• Experience collaborating with international factories is an added advantage.
