Description:

Merrill Lynch Commodities Inc. is seeking a VP; Trader to join their team, responsible for managing risk and trading activities within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role requires the individual to work with a high level of independence, while receiving limited direction from senior staff. You will closely collaborate with the sales team across various time zones to ensure the "right price" is offered to the "right client," taking into account both risk tolerance and balance sheet constraints.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Risk Management & Trading: Managing risk and executing trading activities for the firm in the commodities market, specifically focusing on crude oil and refined oil products.

  • Collaboration Across Time Zones: Working in close coordination with sales teams across varying global time zones to provide competitive and accurate pricing.

  • Statistical Analysis: Using statistical analysis to interpret and analyze multiple data sets. This will be pivotal in forecasting the balance of crude and refined oil products, factoring in inter-regional flows. Your ability to estimate future oil balances and adjust trading strategies accordingly will be crucial.

  • Market Tracking & Forecasting: You will be responsible for monitoring and forecasting daily drivers of the oil markets, providing critical insights into market trends, which can help the company remain agile in its trading strategies.

  • Locational Arbitrage: Calculating locational arbitrages of oil and developing actionable trade ideas based on the findings. The goal is to identify opportunities for risk deployment and generate profit from those arbitrages.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in commodities trading is acceptable.

  • A strong background in statistical analysis, specifically with crude and refined oil products, as well as experience in tracking and forecasting market trends.

  • Expertise in risk management and the ability to make decisions that balance risk tolerance and financial constraints.

  • A solid understanding of inter-regional oil market flows, locational arbitrage, and pricing strategies.

  • Strong communication skills to work with global teams and clients across time zones.
