The Underwriting Director plays a pivotal role in managing the underwriting process for new individual life insurance applications. This leadership role requires strong expertise in medical and financial risk assessment to protect the company’s mortality results, while maintaining a customer-centric focus and supporting sales efforts.
Reporting to the Managing Underwriting Director, this role collaborates closely with Case Managers, Wholesalers (internal and external), and National Marketing Organizations (NMOs)/Firms.
Underwrite complex formal and informal life insurance applications with independent decision-making authority within approval limits.
Analyze detailed medical and financial data to reach comprehensive risk assessments aligned with company policies.
Manage change effectively, resolve conflicts, and negotiate positive outcomes.
Take a cross-functional perspective to understand the impact of decisions across the organization.
Organize and manage a large caseload efficiently.
Demonstrate advanced technical underwriting knowledge and skills.
Provide training and support on underwriting topics to internal and external customers.
Interact independently and effectively with a sophisticated field force targeting an upscale market.
Extensive experience with brokerage distribution marketplace.
Minimum 10 years of life underwriting experience, with proven ability to handle larger face amount cases.
Approval authority of underwriting decisions up to $10,000,000.
Preferred or progressing towards professional designations such as FLMI, FALU, or CLU.
