Description:
Under the direction of the Custodial Manager, this position is responsible for operating and performing minor maintenance repairs on custodial equipment such as buffers, auto scrubbers, riders, extractors, high pressure washers, high-speed buffers, and vacuums. The role involves custodial duties across student housing, academic buildings, and sports facilities, while delivering high-quality customer service to clients.
Operate and perform minor maintenance repairs on custodial equipment
Proper labeling, dilution, and use of cleaning chemicals
Perform a variety of custodial duties including cleaning classrooms, offices, conference rooms, locker rooms, and athletic areas (e.g., bleachers, gym floors, walkways)
Clean floors, windows, walls, doors, and stairs using industrial cleaners and equipment
Manage trash and recycling removal, and ensure proper waste disposal
Set up and tear down for special events, including moving equipment and furniture
Train other custodians on proper equipment use and cleaning techniques
Operate motorized devices and hydraulic lifts for special tasks like bleacher adjustments and high-area cleaning
Perform snow removal from entryways, steps, and sidewalks
Ensure safety and health standards are met while using industrial chemicals
Maintain equipment and order parts and supplies as needed
Provide quality customer service to residents, staff, and campus community
Required:
High school diploma or GED, or a combination of relevant education and work experience
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Capable of performing physical tasks such as climbing stairs, stooping, bending, and working at heights (ladders/platforms)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in a customer service environment
Preferred:
1 year of custodial experience
A valid driver's license
Vaccination for Hepatitis B
Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, pushing, or pulling for a significant portion of the workday
Ability to maintain a steady pace for up to 7.5 hours per day
Ability to work with industrial chemicals
Must pass a functional capacity examination
Majority of work indoors, with some exposure to extreme heat or cold and outdoor tasks (snow/ice removal)
Exposure to working with industrial cleaning chemicals
Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Occasional weekend and additional hours for campus events
