Volunteer Docents

 

Description:

The MCHC’s docents deliver interactive group tours and programs for students and adults. We
are seeking candidates who have an interest in history, enjoy working with students and the
public, and feel comfortable speaking to groups. We provide training on MCHC collections,
exhibitions, tour methodology and themes, and museum policies.

Volunteers are scheduled as needed upon mutual agreement with MCHC staff for the following:

Student Programs

  • Offered mainly on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10 am - 3 pm from September

through June.

  • 1.5- to 2.5-hour museum tours that emphasize hands-on activities.
  • Primarily for elementary and middle school students with occasional high school or higher

education groups.

  • These include guided museum field trip experiences and Student Research Center for

History (SeaRCH) sessions

Group Tours

  • Offered by appointment, Wednesday to Saturday, between 10 am - 3 pm, year-round.
  • 30- to 60-minute exhibition tours that combine docent-led discussions with lecture.
  • Primary audiences are adults/seniors
  • Groups are typically between 10-20 people.
