Description:

The Special Education Teacher (Special Education/Academic Instructor) provides instruction in a regular classroom setting within the Turner Job Corps program. The role includes teaching designated subject areas, promoting a positive learning environment, supporting student motivation, managing classroom behavior, maintaining records, and leveraging available curriculum resources. This role plays a key part in helping young people ages 16–24 achieve educational and career goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom instruction in assigned subject areas

  • Maintain a positive and motivational classroom atmosphere

  • Ensure discipline and a productive learning environment

  • Build strong student–teacher rapport

  • Use available curriculum resources effectively

  • Maintain student personnel records

  • Record and submit daily attendance

  • Uphold organizational policies and contribute to a safe, supportive campus environment


Qualifications:

  • Georgia DOE teaching certification (or willingness to pursue if hired without current certification)

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred

  • Must pass a drug screen

  • Must pass a nationwide criminal background check

  • Strong knowledge of relevant subject area

  • Ability to obtain/maintain CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and relate effectively to the student population

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records

  • Ability to operate basic household appliances and drive an automobile

  • Ability to work effectively with staff and maintain strong team relationships
