Youth Specialist

 

Description:

Friends of Youth is seeking a compassionate and responsible Youth Specialist for Youth Haven to provide supervision, support, and mentorship to youth using a trauma-informed approach. The Youth Specialist will oversee daily activities, provide transportation for medical, educational, and legal needs, and create a safe, nurturing environment that promotes healthy communication, personal growth, and independent living skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and supportive living environment for youth.

  • Provide guidance in self-regulation, conflict resolution, and community engagement.

  • Supervise, monitor, and assist with daily activities, homework, meal preparation, and group sessions.

  • Transport youth to appointments and outings as required.

  • Document behavioral events, medication use, incident reports, and daily communication logs accurately.

  • Support youth in setting and achieving personal goals while encouraging family involvement when appropriate.

  • Assist in training volunteers, interns, and relief employees.

  • Attend team meetings, professional development, and contribute to continuous program improvement.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in human services preferred.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Minimum 6 months of experience working directly with youth.

  • Must be 21+ years old, pass criminal history check, TB test, and hold or obtain a Washington State driver's license.

  • Certification in Food Handling, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens (within 30 days of employment).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
