Description:
Thomas Young Group (TYG) is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Building Envelope Consultant to join its team on a hybrid basis in Massachusetts. The role is ideal for a technically skilled professional with a strong foundation in architectural or engineering practices related to building envelopes. This position offers the opportunity to work in both field and office settings, contributing to a wide range of building performance and envelope-related projects.
As a Building Envelope Consultant, you will be responsible for evaluating and recommending improvements to the performance of building enclosures including roofing, façades, windows, waterproofing systems, and structural interfaces. Your work will involve assessments, forensic analysis, design review, and field testing to ensure optimal building integrity and code compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed inspections and condition assessments of building envelopes for new and existing structures.
Develop and review building envelope design documents and specifications.
Perform forensic evaluations to determine causes of failure related to water intrusion, thermal inefficiency, or structural movement.
Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide consultation on repairs or new construction.
Prepare detailed reports with findings, technical analysis, and recommendations.
Support construction administration by reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and witnessing performance testing.
Stay current on code requirements, material innovations, and industry best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
Experience in building envelope consulting, inspection, or design work.
Familiarity with construction materials, waterproofing systems, and enclosure detailing.
Knowledge of local and national building codes, ASTM and AAMA testing procedures.
Strong report writing, communication, and analytical skills.
Professional licenses or certifications (e.g., PE, RA, RRO, REWC) are a plus.
Willingness to travel to project sites within the region as required.
