Cnc Setup Machinist

Description:

Leupold & Stevens, Inc., an industry leader in high-performance optics and precision-engineered tools, is seeking a CNC Setup Machinist to join its manufacturing facility in Beaverton, Oregon. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $31–$34 (based on experience), with an additional $3/hour shift differential. This is a full-time, on-site role, operating Sunday through Wednesday from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.

As a CNC Setup Machinist, you will be responsible for the setup and operation of advanced CNC turning centers, with a particular emphasis on “INDEX” brand machines. You will ensure that all machined parts meet strict dimensional and quality specifications, perform troubleshooting, and guide operators to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate complex parts on multiple “INDEX” brand CNC turning centers.

• Read and edit programs, assess and adjust tooling, perform offsets, and load bars as needed.

• Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT) in performing first articles and production runs.

• Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) using appropriate software and systems.

• Conduct preventive maintenance tasks including TPM, monitoring lubricants, and preparing machines for service.

• Train and mentor operators, ensuring consistent production quality.

• Monitor product quality, report non-conformance, and complete required documentation and barcode data entry.

• Maintain a safe and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and using PPE.

• Assist coworkers and proactively seek additional tasks during unassigned periods.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a machinist, with at least 5 years in operating INDEX CNC turning centers preferred.

• Strong understanding of CNC troubleshooting, advanced shop math, and GDT.

• Proficient in reading blueprints and interpreting complex mechanical drawings.

• Good communication skills with fluency in technical English (verbal and written).

• Experience with Microsoft Office and computer-based systems preferred.

• High attention to detail, excellent manual dexterity, and ability to lift up to 25 lbs with assistance.
