Construction Controller

Description:

Our client is premier construction firm specializing in exterior restoration and roofing projects throughout the NYC area. We are seeking a seasoned Construction Controller to play a key leadership role in overseeing all aspects of the accounting function. You’ll be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in project financials, implementing strong controls, and partnering closely with leadership to drive business decisions. You’ll also manage and mentor a team of 2 staff members handling AP, AR, billing, and contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all construction accounting operations, including job costing, revenue recognition, and general ledger maintenance.
• Ensure accuracy and compliance with AIA billing, lien waivers, subcontractor tracking, and contract compliance.
• Produce timely monthly financials, WIP schedules, and project-level reporting.
• Manage project cash flow, forecasting, and budget tracking in coordination with PMs and leadership.
• Lead and support a team handling AP, AR, billing, and contract administration.
• Serve as a key liaison with external CPAs, banks, and bonding agencies.
• Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and reporting processes.
• Utilize QuickBooks and Excel to support the accounting function; experience implementing or enhancing systems a plus.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of construction accounting experience, preferably in roofing, restoration, or general contracting.
• Strong familiarity with AIA billing and job cost accounting practices.
• Previous supervisory experience managing small teams.
• High attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and strong Excel skills required.
• Proven ability to thrive in a hands-on environment and collaborate across departments.
