Critical Operations Technician

Description:

QTS Data Centers is seeking a Critical Operations Technician I to join its Facilities Operations team in Irving, TX. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of critical infrastructure within a 24x7x365 data center environment. The position is strictly on-site and requires professionals with technical expertise in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and IT hardware systems.

As a Critical Operations Technician I, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and IT systems. The role includes performing preventive maintenance, monitoring facility systems, conducting equipment adjustments, and ensuring operational excellence of both building and IT infrastructure. You will also assist customers directly on the Data Center floor and respond to emergencies while maintaining adherence to safety, compliance, and operational policies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing routine and preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and IT equipment while ensuring proper system operations.

• Installing, repairing, and supporting IT, mechanical, and electrical equipment, including high-level hardware and software configuration.

• Assisting in the installation of data center components such as ladder racks, fiber trays, cabinets, cabling, and cages.

• Monitoring building systems, responding to customer requests, and managing tickets in the internal system for alerts and service issues.

• Following the change management process for maintenance approvals and documentation.

• Ensuring safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

• Responding to emergencies and supporting both preventative and corrective maintenance activities.

Requirements for Success:

• Minimum 2 years of technical, trade, or military training, or equivalent work experience.

• Background in facilities maintenance, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or IT cabling/hardware.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 1 year of prior experience in data centers, commercial, or industrial facilities.
