Data Center Hardware Support Technician

 

Description:

A dynamic and hands-on role is available for a Data Center Hardware Support Technician who will be responsible for the physical and operational support of data center infrastructure. This position involves working closely with remote technical teams and responding to both routine and urgent hardware and connectivity needs across different sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Physical Support and Maintenance:

  • Install, relocate, and decommission servers, network devices, and related hardware.

  • Conduct thorough physical inspections and basic troubleshooting of hardware systems.

  • Manage cabling tasks including patching, routing, and organizing cables.

  • Replace and upgrade hardware components such as hard drives, memory, and power supplies.

Operational Support:

  • Assist with equipment setup, configuration, and basic maintenance tasks.

  • Ensure all hardware and cabling are labeled and documented accurately.

  • Follow standardized maintenance procedures and safety protocols.

Remote Assistance:

  • Serve as the physical on-site contact for remote engineering and support teams.

  • Execute instructions provided remotely with accuracy and efficiency.

  • Offer real-time updates and feedback to remote teams during incident response and troubleshooting.

Site Support:

  • Travel to different locations as required, based on urgency and priority.

  • Assist end users with physical connectivity and networking issues.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor infrastructure for alarms, alerts, and unusual activity.

  • Log and report discrepancies, issues, or abnormal findings to relevant teams.

  • Maintain up-to-date records of all on-site activities and incidents.


Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Proficient in handling server and network hardware.

  • Ability to perform hands-on maintenance and equipment replacement.

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with remote support teams.

  • Capable of working independently and managing time effectively while traveling.

  • Basic knowledge of cabling standards and data center best practices.
