Description:
Design Manager supports client and leads Vanir team providing pre-construction phase services. Design Manager is senior onsite point of contact responsible for delivery of our services including design review, constructability, value engineering, independent estimating, project controls, master schedule, client meetings, oversight of architect, and issue resolution.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes and directs the design activities for the campus. Lead design professional providing pre-construction phase management, quality review, implementation of policy and procedures and Division of the State Architect (DSA) coordination.
- Manages and monitors the design process to ensure that Campus Projects are designed, constructed and completed in compliance with DSA guidelines and bulletins, programming and project criteria documents
- Manages, develops and oversees the design process providing project controls to include program, project and schedule compliance
- Manages multiple projects through interaction with Architects, consultants, and personnel from project conception to execution, overseen and defining the scope of campus projects
- Works with stakeholders to confirm buy-in of design and conformance with design standards and budget
- Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project
- Responsible for QA/QC review of plans, specifications, cut sheets, schedules and other design documents for quality, constructability, coordination and clarity
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA or BS in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management or a closely related field.
- 10 years full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that includes the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities
- 5 years of this experience must be with the design of projects requiring DSA or OSHPD certification
- California School Facilities experience preferred
- A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferred.
