Development Director

Forward Majority is a political organization dedicated to accelerating Democratic power in state legislatures. They have mobilized over $120M to advance their mission since 2017. The organization is seeking a Development Director to join their leadership team during the mid-term elections cycle. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will manage the development pipeline, retain current donors, attract new donors, and collaborate closely with programs, voter registration, and campaign teams. The position requires travel for donor meetings and events, with a preference for candidates based in New York City or Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership & Project Management: Lead day-to-day development processes, manage the Development & Engagement Associate, execute the organization’s finance plan, and interface with program teams to align fundraising with cash flow and program needs.

• Fundraising Strategy: Refine fundraising strategy in a political environment, generate ideas, and engage political donors effectively.

• Donor Communication & Stewardship: Manage donor communications, meetings, virtual briefings, events, and investor updates. Develop pitch materials, execute funder outreach and renewal plans, manage grant proposals and reporting, and support grassroots digital fundraising.

• Prospecting: Conduct prospect research and build a major donor pipeline alongside the Development team and consultants.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Entrepreneurial and growth mindset with strong project management skills.

• Minimum 7 years of development experience, preferably in political fundraising.

• Experience raising five- and six-figure gifts in political or nonprofit sectors.

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including donor materials.

• Experience managing junior staff and supporting a principal fundraiser.

• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Commitment to advancing democracy.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $145,000 - $160,000/year, commensurate with experience.
