Digital Producer

Description:

Gannett Co., Inc., the parent company of USA TODAY and various local news outlets, is seeking a Digital Producer to support the West Hub – a digital audience team serving several publications including the Ventura County Star (California), Reno Gazette Journal (Nevada), and the Statesman Journal and Register-Guard (Oregon). This is a fully remote position open to applicants across the U.S. (except Alaska and Hawaii), with a preference for candidates based on the West Coast.

As a Digital Producer, you will be responsible for managing content, optimizing web presentation, editing and publishing news stories, and engaging with audiences across platforms. The role demands strong writing, editing, and headline skills, along with solid news judgment and familiarity with analytics tools. This role also requires close collaboration with reporters, content coaches, and newsroom leadership to enhance digital storytelling and ensure high-quality content delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit, produce, and publish digital content while ensuring SEO optimization and alignment with digital best practices.

• Manage desktop and mobile versions of site homepages to attract and retain readers.

• Create informative and appealing social media posts and infographics.

• Collaborate with reporters and editors on story packaging for deeper, engaging storytelling experiences.

• Monitor wire services and media sources to keep sites current.

• Use metrics tools such as Parse.ly and Google Analytics to inform content decisions and optimize traffic performance.

• Prioritize and manage a fast-paced workflow to meet tight editorial deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Prior experience in a news organization with demonstrated editorial skills.

• Strong editing, headline writing, and decision-making skills.

• Understanding of news judgment and journalistic standards.

• Strong communication and multitasking abilities.

• Capacity to work calmly and effectively in fast-paced, breaking news environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with advanced multimedia storytelling across platforms.

• Spanish language fluency.

• Familiarity with newspaper style guides and editorial workflows.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Competitive monthly salary between $4,000 and $6,250, depending on location, education, skills, and experience.

• May be eligible for variable performance-based compensation.
