Description:
We are seeking a Electrical Technician to provide technical leadership and hands-on field support for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium voltage electrical distribution systems. This position serves as a lead technician on projects, mentoring junior personnel while ensuring the safe and successful execution of field service activities across utility, industrial, commercial, renewable energy, and mission-critical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field teams performing testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of medium voltage electrical equipment.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to technicians during commissioning and maintenance activities.
- Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting of medium voltage power systems and distribution equipment.
- Service, inspect, test, and maintain switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, motor control equipment, substations, and power distribution systems.
- Conduct acceptance testing, relay testing, insulation resistance testing, transformer testing, breaker testing, and power system diagnostics.
- Support project planning, outage coordination, equipment energization, and startup activities.
- Review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, relay settings, protection and control drawings, and commissioning procedures.
- Coordinate field activities with customers, engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and utility personnel.
- Ensure all testing and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with company procedures, NETA standards, manufacturer recommendations, and customer specifications.
- Prepare and review service reports, commissioning documentation, test results, and project closeout packages.
- Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO, and company safety requirements.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and development of junior technicians and field personnel.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree or electrical trade certification preferred.
- 3+ years of experience working with medium voltage electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
- Proven experience leading field service, commissioning, maintenance, or testing projects.
- Strong experience with switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, substations, and power distribution equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, relay logic, schematics, and protection diagrams.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety practices including NFPA 70E and LOTO procedures.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer and project sites.
- Ability to pass background, drug screening, and driving record requirements.
