Engineer Supervisor

 

Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises stationary Engineers and Building Services Assistants
  • Performs mechanical, engineering, and maintenance work at all museum properties
  • Issues and oversees work order requests, event set-ups, and requests for moving furniture, boxes, etc.
  • Delegates mechanical work in the central plant, control room, and the electrical room
  • Prepares and reviews work assignments and follows up to ensure work is complete
  • Coordinates maintenance and repairs needed on museum vehicles
  • Supervises grounds maintenance, including fountains, pools, and grounds
  • Supervises outside contractors while performing work at the museum
  • Responsible for the water treatment of various equipment and water features
  • Leads the work on large event setups and breakdowns
  • Conducts safety training in conjunction with Life Safety Manager to assure adequate safety measures are taken in the performance of all operations
  • Operates various aerial lifts (20ft to 85ft) and fork lifts to complete tasks
  • Drives cargo van, box truck, and pickup truck to and from work sites
  • Supervises holiday decor set-up and break-down
  • Conducts performance evaluations as necessary
  • As part of the essential staff- protects museum properties during natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, ice storms, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of A/C, heating, steam boilers, chillers, air handling units, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary equipment
  • Able to read building prints
  • Able to work on-call with rotating shifts and be available to respond to emergency calls when off duty
  • Able to perform the physical aspects of the position, including lifting heavy equipment, bending and stooping
  • Must work consistently at the office; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent and arrive at meetings and appointments on time
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and interact with Museum employees, outside contractors, and the general public
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to focus on details; effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Display willingness to make decisions; use sound and accurate judgment; support and explain the reasoning for decisions; include appropriate people in the decision-making process and make timely decisions
  • Conflict management skills, discretion, good judgment, and helpful attitude required
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit and supports everyone's efforts to succeed
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have a valid Texas driver license and good driving record

Education and Experience:

  • Possess a City of Houston 1st or 2nd Grade Stationary Engineer's License
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Minimum two years of experience in a similar capacity in a similar size and type facility
  • Experience with METASYS system a plus
