Environmental Field Chemist

Clean Harbors, the leading provider of environmental, energy, and industrial services across North America, is seeking a Field Chemist (Class B CDL Driver) in Cincinnati, OH. This position is designed for professionals who excel at managing chemical waste safely and efficiently while providing exceptional customer service. The role focuses on handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting hazardous materials in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as Clean Harbors’ internal safety and compliance protocols.

This position is field-based — not laboratory-based — and involves working at various customer sites, including plants, labs, and industrial facilities. You will be directly responsible for lab pack services, household hazardous waste collections, and lab relocations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety First: Always uphold Clean Harbors’ top priority—health and safety—by adhering to all safety policies and best practices (3-6-5).

• Prepare and maintain all required documentation, including packing lists, manifests, labels, and land disposal restriction forms.

• Conduct inspections of storage, accumulation, and staging areas to ensure regulatory compliance and proper housekeeping.

• Manage and segregate chemical waste efficiently for compliant disposal while maximizing operational productivity.

• Execute on-site projects at client facilities, including Fortune 500 companies, ensuring that all work meets OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety standards.

• Conduct waste sampling and profiling for analytical testing.

• Ensure all shipments meet labeling, packaging, and condition requirements.

• Operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with U.S. DOT and state regulations.

• Support environmental remediation and emergency response activities as needed.

• Maintain communication with customers to ensure professional and reliable service delivery.

Qualifications:

• Required:

  • Valid Class B CDL license (with ability to obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsements within 6 months).

  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills.

  • Must be able to pass background check, drug screening, and physical exam.

  • Ability to perform physical labor and meet OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.34) facial hair requirements.

• Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related Natural Science field.

  • Previous experience in environmental services, including waste management, spill response, or abatement.
